I started life as a musician at the age of 5 learning the piano.
During Infant and Junior school played the various recorders.
At the age of 11 during the summer school holiday taught myself to play the Clarinet. Joined the Wibsey Brass and Reed band on 2nd clarinet that year and by Christmas was on the solo stand. 1 year later became principal clarinettist. Studied music at Belle Vue Boys School under Mr C H Teale and became principal clarinettist in the Belle Vue Boys’ Symphonic Band. Whilst at Bell Vue learnt the saxophone and flute. In 1975 toured Germany with Bell Vue.
Played under Bob Hardy, Winston and Eric for the Bradford Youth Concert Band and later Jonathan, helping out when I could. Principal clarinettist for the Bradford Metro Concert Band for 18 years. I now own and run my own Big Band the Nightflyers, play in the Burley Swing Band (formerly the Leeds Swing Orchestra) and one of the two permanent clarinettist for the Halifax Symphony Orchestra. I get asked to play for various pit orchestra for shows through out Yorkshire during the year and now have the honour of being M.D for NoteAbility Concert Band.
